"Rehearsing for a record-setting jump from the edge of space, daredevil Felix Baumgartner today parachuted from more than 13 miles high and landed safely in a field near Roswell, N.M., his team reports.
Baumgartner, who hopes to jump from 23 miles later this year, was carried aloft by a capsule-equipped helium balloon. Wearing a pressurized space suit, he jumped at roughly 71,581 (13.6 miles), reaching 364 mph during the 3-minute, 33-second free fall before opening his chute at 7,890 feet, according to his Red Bull Stratos project. The entire jump lasted 8 minutes, 8 seconds."
