Before-and-After Images of How Earth Has Changed

From the ice sheets of Greenland to the deserts of Arizona, many of the world’s landscapes have been dramatically transformed as their climate grows warmer and drier. At the same time, water use and other human activities have altered many landscapes. NASA has accumulated striking photos that show just how much our surroundings have changed.

Strange New Year traditions around the world

The big New Year’s Eve tradition in Denmark involves smashing plates against your friends’ front doors. It’s a measure of popularity to find a heap of broken china on the doorstep at midnight – according to the tradition, this brings good luck, so the more smashed plates, the more you’ll get.
It’s also tradition to jump off a chair at the stroke of midnight – symbolising the leap into the New Year.

Couple Saves A Squirrel And Now It Lives In Their Christmas Tree

Mitten is the second squirrel the family has saved: “We would love to run a wildlife rehabilitation center some day. We are building a 5ft by 3ft by 8ft enclosure for him, which I hope to put a small living tree in.” For now, Mitten loves hanging out in the family’s Christmas tree. more

Vip Snow Queen Trophy Cancelled

Zagreb’s mild, snow-less winter thus far has put paid to the ski showcase, which was set for 5 and 6 January 2016, for the second time. In 2014 the race also had to be cancelled for the same reasons.
“We have carefully looked at the amount of snow forecast for the coming days and we can not see a situation where we can guarantee a race on Sljeme for the world’s best skiers. The organising committee have done all they could, but unfortunately we have to cancel the race,” Emmanuel Couder, from the International Ski Federation said after examining the course on the weekend in Zagreb.
Zagreb has not received any significant snow yet this winter, and bright sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted coarse inspectors on the weekend before they made the decision.
Races will now take place on 5 and 6 January in Santa Caterina, Italy. via
