Absolutely Amazing Dog Photos from Tim Flach

"Tim Flach is a well-known London based photographer. His work has been exhibited in Britain, the United States and the Far East. He also frequently lectures on photography in various countries and has received such international awards as: Association of Photography (AOP), British Design & Art Direction (D & AD), Art Director’s Club of New York (ACNY), Communication Arts (CA) and Photo District News (PDN) Photography. Tim become famous thanks to his stylized photographs of animals that do not fit into traditional notions of wildlife photography when animals are shown in their natural habitat. Tim Flach avoids the obvious compositions. Animals at his photos are taken out of context, and this unreality once again force to reconsider existing stereotypes."

Can falling bullets kill you?

"A crowd of Libyans fired guns in the air and chanted slogans in support of Muammar Qaddafi at a rally in the city of Sirte on Monday. Isn't it kind of dangerous to shoot bullets into the sky?"

The Senior Center

"t was entertainment night at the Senior Center.

Claude the hypnotist exclaimed, “I'm here to put you into a trance. I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience.”

The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful, antique pocket watch from his coat.

“I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. It's been in my family for six generations.”

He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting, “Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch...”

The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface.

Hundreds of pairs eyes followed the swaying watch.

Then, suddenly, the watch slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a hundred pieces.

“SHIT!” said the Hypnotist.

It took three days to clean up the Senior Center.

Claude was never invited back to entertain."

Rare white otters' baby holds on tight to mum as he dozes

"There's nothing like a little snooze after you've had your lunchtime feed, but maybe this wasn't the perfect moment for junior to drop off.

His mother - a rare white otter - ended up having to balance her four-month-old babe on her belly after he nodded off during suckling in the water.

In the end, she carefully rolled the sleepy boy into the river where he continued to doze afloat on his back."

Stork lover 'Rodan' late in coming back from Africa

"The world-renowned stork lover Rodan has failed to return to Croatia from South Africa on the day he was expected, leading many to fear that something happened to the bird on his way back.

The loving stork couple Rodan and Malena from Croatia’s eastern town of Brodski Varos harnessed fame when newspapers around the world carried their unusual love story. For nine years now, Rodan has been returning after a journey south to his lover confined to her nest due to a wing injury. Over the course of the years, the couple had some 32 chicks.

But this year Rodan had worried Malena’s keeper Stjepan Vokic as the unusually punctual bird is late.

Another male stork has moved into an abandoned nest near Malena, leading some anxious Facebook followers of the story to believe that this could be a replacement sent by Rodan aware he could no longer return to his loved one."

A Dog's Life

"The underlying image is an extreme close-up of a puppy. This picture was haphazardly taken when our Alaskan Malamute was 7 weeks old. His name is Lupo, which means 'wolf' in Hawaiian. He's the size of a small bear and very wolf-like. He enjoys eating the couch and the carpet. Sometimes we don't understand each other. The library of images compiled as a mosaic overlay is made up our life together, hence the name, 'A Dog's Life.' "I shall Kiss your name and mine where your Lips have been – Lips!"

"He was too ill to see the woman he loved, so he wrote to her from his sickbed.
Now a love letter sent by John Keats to his young fiancée Fanny Brawne has sold for an astonishing £96,000 at auction.
The poet composed the 170-word note in 1820 while suffering from tuberculosis. He died the following year, aged just 25.
In the letter, which was sold by auction house Bonhams to the City of London Corporation, he described himself as a ‘poor prisoner’ because his disease prevented him from kissing Miss Brawne.
The Romantic poet, whose works include Bright Star and Ode to a Nightingale, fell in love with the teenage Miss Brawne when she moved in next door to his home in Hampstead, north London.
But their relationship was never consummated because of his highly contagious illness.
In the letter, he wrote: ‘I shall Kiss your name and mine where your Lips have been – Lips! Why should a poor prisoner as I am talk about such things.
‘Thank God, though I hold them the dearest pleasures in the universe, I have a consolation independent of them in the certainty of your affectation.’"

Alien home?

"If aliens exist, these are what their planets look like, according to NASA.

Astronomers at the U.S. space department have spent the last two years scouring the Milky Way for Earth-like planets in their quest for foreign life forms.

And this is what they have come up with. The black spots represent 1,235 planets orbiting their suns, which have been arranged by order of size."

5 Questions with @BronxZoosCobra, the Runaway Snake with a Twitter Account

How did you manage to escape the zoo?

Let's just say it involved a paper clip, chewing gum and an old episode of MacGyver.

Why did you take to Twitter rather than dropping off the grid entirely?
I wanted to inspire zoo animals everywhere to take a bigger part in social media, like @ConansSquirrel and @Sockington. Also, I'm totally looking for a book deal.

How long do you plan to slither around the city? Do you have any other destinations in mind?
I just want to see the sights, maybe take in a show or two. If anyone has suggestions they should let me know.

What's been your favorite destination in New York City?
Rockefeller Center was pretty exciting. I saw Tina Fey. I didn't say anything to her. I just played it cool like a real New Yorker would.

What happens if you're caught?
I assume that at some point the FBI will contact me to help them track down some other escaped animal. A partnership will form between me, the charming cobra, and a tough and by-the-book agent that only puts up with my flippant attitude because I get results.

Bonus Question (we couldn't resist this shameless attempt)
What's your real identity?
Justin Bieber.

What has a huge and possibly extremely sexy nose, and is the only primate that chews the cud?

"Pinocchio has nothing on the proboscis monkey. The fabled wooden boy's nose grew to extreme lengths only when he told lies, but this real-life primate has a big nose no matter what it does.

Combined with their pot bellies – the result of the complicated digestive system necessary to stomach their diet of leaves and fruit – their appearance could charitably be described as peculiar. But it now seems the proboscis monkey has a truly peculiar foible: it is the only primate known to chew the cud – it regurgitates its food and chews it a second time."

Clooney called by Berlusconi's defense as witness

" Silvio Berlusconi's defense lawyers on Tuesday named George Clooney, the Italian foreign minister and a bevy of showgirls as witnesses at the premier's upcoming prostitution trial, an attorney and news reports said.
Prosecutors, for their part, have asked to hear from 136 witnesses, including the Moroccan teenager at the center of the scandal and 32 other women who allegedly worked as prostitutes during parties at Berlusconi's villa, according to Italian news reports.
Both sides presented their lists of witnesses at the Milan tribunal where the trial opens next week. A judge must now decide which witnesses to admit.
The 74-year-old Berlusconi is accused of having paid for sex with the Moroccan, who is known as Ruby and was 17 at the time, and then using his influence to try to cover it up. The premier denies wrongdoing.
Clooney was listed because Ruby once said she had seen the Hollywood star and his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis at one of Berlusconi's parties, according to the law firm representing Berlusconi.
'We want to see if they confirm this fact or not,' said attorney Piersilvio Cipollotti.
An email sent to Clooney's representative wasn't immediately answered."

The outpouring of bile directed at 13-year-old Rebecca Black for her YouTube song Friday shows how unhinged such mass hate campaigns can be.

"Not so long ago, if you wanted to issue a 13-year-old girl with a blood-curdling death threat, you had to scrawl it on a sheet of paper, wrap it round a brick, hurl it through her bedroom window, and scarper before her dad ran out of the front door to beat you insensible with a dustbuster. Now, thanks to Twitter, hundreds of thousands of people can simultaneously surround her online screaming abuse until she bursts into tears. Hooray for civilisation.

That's in effect what happened the other week in the Rebecca Black 'Friday' affair."

France and Lap Dogs Go Way Back

"The oldest dogs from France were small, lap-sized canines that lived up to 15,000 years ago, according to new research.

These poodle-sized dogs raise a lot of questions about the earliest domestication of dogs, due to their impressive age and the fact that most other prehistoric pooches were much larger."

Apple iPod 'could be charged by the human heart'

"Scientists hope that as the nanotechnology used in the chip evolves, it could lead to electronics which don't require batteries or mains power.
Hailed as a milestone, it can use tiny movements such as the pinch of a finger to generate power.
The team, presenting their findings at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, have used it to power LCD displays and diodes, as well as to transmit a radio signal once its generated power has been stored.
Dr Zhong Lin Wang, of Georgia Institute of Technology said: 'This development represents a milestone toward producing portable electronics that can be powered by body movements without the use of batteries or electrical outlets.
'Our nanogenerators are poised to change lives in the future. Their potential is only limited by one's imagination.'"
