NASA’s Curiosity Rover Lands Safely on Mars
"After executing a flawless landing sequence, NASA’s new Mars rover, Curiosity, has reached the surface of its new home.
“We are wheels down on Mars,” was the official word from mission control. Engineers immediately erupted into applause, hugs, and a few tears.
“That rocked! Seriously, was that not cool?” said Richard Cook, deputy project manager of the rover, during a NASA press conference after the event.
Soon after the landing, the first images came from Curiosity’s cameras, showing pebbles, dust, and the shadow of the rover on the surface of Mars."

Remembering Marilyn Monroe
Victory Day
The central ceremonies in observance of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Homeland War Veterans' Day on 5 August began in the southern town of Knin on Sunday morning with the ceremony of hoisting Croatia's flag at the town fortress.
The state flag was raised by two servicemen who participated in Operation Storm 17 years ago when Croatia's forces liberated southern and central areas of Croatia held by rebel Serbs since 1990.
In attendance were Croatia's top officials including President Ivo Josipovic, the acting Parliament Speaker Josip Leko, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, the armed forces' chief-of-staff General Drago Lovric and other senior officials and political parties' leaders.
Church bells rang at 0943 hrs in remembrance of the exact time when Croatian defenders entered Knin 17 years ago,

Chihuahua Finds 2 Girls Lost in Georgia Forest
A Chihuahua is being hailed as a hero after authorities say it sniffed out two girls who were lost in a Georgia forest.
The girls, ages 5 and 8, disappeared Monday for a couple of hours when they were walking on trails near their neighborhood about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta. As police and firefighters began to search for the girls, neighbor Carvin Young grabbed his 3-year-old Chihuahua and joined the search.
Young tells CBS Atlanta the dog, Bell, picked up the girls’ scent and began running until she reached them.
Rebecca Parga, the girls’ mother, says her children play with Bell almost every day, and the dog is very familiar with them.
The girls, Carlie and Lacey, were scared when they were found but were not hurt.

11 Reasons Why You Should Know About Tesla
5 Questions for the Higgs Boson
First of all—and I have to ask this—“God particle”? Really? Who started that?
I have gotten so much shit for that! (laughs) I don’t know where that started. Probably TMZ or somewhere! Look, if people want to call me that because they like what I do … well, I’m humbled. It’s cool to know that what you do makes people happy. I love my fans. But God particle? I don’t think so! I can’t even get my iPhone to sync. (laughs)
Speaking of what you do … what do you do, exactly?
Probably what I’m best known for, for better or worse, is making atomic particles have mass. But I don’t want to be pigeonholed as that, because I don’t want to put limits on what I plan to do in the future. Like, right now I’m doing a lot of things that don’t involve atomic particles or mass or anything like that. For example, my menswear line. It’s a joint venture between me and Hugo Boss. It’s going to be called either Higgs Boss or Hugo Boson. Or we may go a whole different way and call it H. Biggy. My branding team is into it right now. I haven’t been this excited about something I’ve been involved in since I created the universe. Also, there’s gonna be a fragrance.
There’s been a lot written about tension in your relationship with Peter Higgs, one of the scientists who discovered you. Any truth to the rumors?
Peter and I are both very passionate about what we do, and when you put a passionate human being and a passionate subatomic particle together there’s bound to be friction. We fight like brothers sometimes, but it’s only because we care so deeply about what we’re doing and we want to make it perfect. But as far as what happened in the club last week, no, I did not throw a bottle at his head.
O.K., be honest, and no false modesty here: Is there anything the Higgs boson can’t do?
A: Honest answer? I want to be considered the Michael Jordan of subatomic particles. By that I mean, Michael Jordan might not have been the most physically gifted player in the history of the N.B.A., but nobody worked harder at his game than he did. That’s what I’m all about. Whether it’s giving mass to matter, breaking electroweak symmetry, or explaining the origin of the universe and whatnot, I believe I can do it all.
Could you have kept Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise together?
A: Shit no! (laughs)

Welcome to Buffalo Bill City!
A real cowboy city has emerged in Vrsi near Nin - Buffalo Bill City. The city has everything a city in the Wild West should have. The bank is indeed closed for robbers have tried to rob it, but the jail is full - one of the robbers is languishing in it, while the other prisoner has tried to steal a horse in a stable and fled... The Saloon, next to the sheriff’s office, is always full of people and beautiful ladies, and under the hotel which, for now, has one room, there is an unusual Coca-Cola Museum with hundreds of objects connected to this popular American drink.
It’s calm in the city and how will it not be with Ivanica Bukva taking care of it and having designed it with her Italian husband Antonio Iapichino, and with the help of her family realized the first western city in Croatia intended to be a family entertainment park, which, immediately upon opening, became a first class tourist attraction of the Zadar region. more

Belarus generals fired after teddy bear 'invasion'
An army of teddy bears descended on Belarus this weekend, but President Alexander Lukashenko really wanted to pretend it never happened. Unfortunately in this day of rapid-fire tweets, it’s rather hard to keep a teddy bear airdrop under wraps for long. Lukashenko, then, was forced to admit that the thousands of teddy bears that fell on his country were not just part of a bad dream. A Swedish plane parachuted the bears over the town of Ivyanets, near the capital of Minsk, on July 4. The bears wore signs that read, “Belarus freedom” and “We support the Belarus struggle for free speech.” Belarus is considered to be the “last dictatorship in Europe” according to some, and the country has stagnated under Lukashenko’s authoritarian rule. After the bear drop, Belarusian defense forces earlier denied that the plane had flown over the country and called the story a provocation, Russia’s Ria Novosti news agency reports. But now, Lukashenko has admitted the bears and the plane bearing the bears was real and he is less than thrilled that his air defenses failed to stop the plane. “How can you explain that a light aircraft, which not only crossed the border, but also with impunity, invaded the territory of the Republic of Belarus? It is first and foremost a matter of the safety of our citizens,” Lukashenko said, according to news agency Interfax as reported in USA Today. In response to the stunt, Lukashenko fired two senior officials over their failure to intercept the plane. A statement released Tuesday confirmed the leaders of Belarus’ air force and border guard service had both been canned. more
