Cindy Sherman retrospective

American artist Cindy Sherman is a visionary in terms of using the image—specifically the self-portrait in her series such as Untitled film stills and Clowns for example—as a vehicle to explore the fluidity of the self and the ways in which aspects of identity are socially-constructed rather than ‘natural’ attributes.
At a time where the idea of singular self is increasingly drawn into question due to the shapeshifting tendencies of social media, it’s only fitting then that Sherman would be the subject of a major retrospective opening this autumn at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris.
