Happy Statehood Day Croatia!

Croatia is celebrating its Statehood day on June 25, 2016, to honour the event which took place on June 25, 1991, when the Croatian parliament adopted the decision to proclaim its independence from Yugoslavia, based on the will of the people shown on a referendum on May 19, 1991. And just in case you were wondering, this holiday is not to be confused with Croatia's Independence Day, which is celebrated on October 8. The independence was proclaimed on 25 June, but because of the Brioni Agreement, a three-month moratorium was placed on the implementation of the decision and the Parliament cut all remaining ties with Yugoslavia in October.
