Beauty was a Duty

Rationing in World War II affected everyone and everything. Petrol, sugar, eggs, nightshirts, sausages and spats: all came in a grim little book of stamps. But the home hardships didn’t end with coupons. Nevermind dwindling supplies - some items just weren't available at all. One of those was cosmetics. And sometimes, it's the most frivolous things that have the most profound effect.
