Six men taken into custody over Zagreb explosion

Police, in cooperation with the County Prosecutor's Office in Zagreb, have completed an investigation into six men, aged between 27 and 58, suspected of planting an explosive device which went off in Zagreb's central Ban Josip Jelacic square on Wednesday, Zagreb police said at a news conference on Sunday, adding that the suspects were in custody. The six men are believed to have met in the coastal town of Vodice in early December 2012 and agreed to activate an explosive device in Zagreb's main square. They planted the improvised device around 0230 hours on Wednesday, January 23 and set it off. Two concrete tiles on the central square were damaged in the explosion. The blast also caused minor damage on a nearby building. The police said that the motive behind this crime was wantonness, namely a crazy idea of an individual or a group who had everything going too well for them and did not know what to do with themselves. The maximum penalty for this crime is five years. Reporters were told that two men in the group were father and son. The explosion occurred in Ban Jelacic square around 0230 hours on Wednesday but no one was hurt.
This was the third explosion in Zagreb this month.
