156th anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth

The Nikola Tesla Memorial Centre, in Tesla's home town of Smiljan in Croatia, are to mark the 156th anniversary since the birth of the famous physicist and inventor on Tuesday 10 July, with an all day programme. The Nikola Tesla Memorial Centre was formed on 10 July 2006, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Tesla's birth. The centre was built under the sponsorship of the Croatian government and aims to promote the life and works of Tesla and to introduce to the wider public the great achievements of the genius from the region of Lika in Croatia. Tesla is best known for developing the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. The programme on Tuesday starts off with a children's workshop at 9:00am titled "young visionaries" where pre-school children will have the opportunity to express themselves in literature, art and music. The kids will also be introduced to the life and works of Tesla, and their works, inspired by Tesla's inventions, will be presented in the Memorial Centre. At 11:00am there will also be an exhibition of the works of sculptor Pero Jelisic, and from 12:00pm there will also be the promotion of famous Hungarian author Miklos Josika's novel "Abafi", which Tesla read as a child and which was an inspiration on his life.
