Latvians take to the water on milk cartons

"The annual event gathered a record number of participants - 36 teams took part in the competition and 45 000 empty milk cartons were used to make boats.
The only design guidelines is, the more attractive - the better. There is no limit to the size of the boat or number of rowers, provided that the boat stays above keeps above water.
Despite the race distance being only 50 meters to the bridge pier, many of the crafts struggled going against a strong head wind.
The boat 'Small galley' won the speed contest, while the 'Swimming pool' boat was awarded the most attractive team."
