The driver heard a "pang" sound.

The rear tyre of this cement mixer sank into the road it was on in Xi'an, capital of western China's Shaanxi Province. The driver had to drive up onto the pavement to enter a construction site. When he did, he says, he heard a "pang" sound and the vehicle tipped up at the front. When he got out he was surprised to see that one of the tyres had literally sunk into the pavement. When the pavement was later examined it was discovered that there were three pits beneath, possibly caused by rainwater erosion.
