Egyptian officials wanted to launder money through investments in Croatia

"Member of the Egyptian presidency Muhamed Ezz and the dismissed Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garranah allegedly intended to launder money through investments in Croatia.

Their plans have been thwarted by the protests that erupted in the country two weeks ago, the daily 24 Sata writes. In the meantime both domestic and foreign properties of the two officials have been frozen.

The Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor had presented 30 of the government’s public investment projects in Egypt at the beginning of December, allegedly meeting both Ezz and Garranah, as well as many other potential investors who are now banned from leaving the country. Ezz was interested in building hotels on Croatian islands, while Grana wanted to invest in the trade and steel industry, the daily writes.

The Croatian government’s spokesperson Mladen Pavic said that it is fortunate that no investments had been made in the end."
