"Great Wave" in Lego bricks

"Under the Wave Off Kanagawa" is one of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai's most famous images. 

One masterful woodcut print sold for $2.76 million this year and the work is found everywhere on posters, coffee mugs and calendars. 

A copy is part of a wonderful traveling show, which also includes other versions of the frothing, crashing wave. The most fun tribute is a giant recreation of the Wave done in Lego blocks.

 Meet Ian Summers, a Lego artist who goes by the name "Bricktacular Builds" on Instagram.

 

Remember those floral adult coloring books that were all the rage not so long ago?

Maybe you owned one, and relaxed by losing track of time filling in the patterns with color. 

One company that picked up on the benefits of creative, meditative activities is LEGO, who began releasing sets specifically for adults. Among these is the Botanicals Collection, comprised of several plant-inspired sets designed with intricate details and a sophisticated darker color palette.

 The newest addition to the collection of elegant flora are the Orchid and Succulents sets.

 

Zelenskiy Lego Figures Released To Raise Money for Ukraine

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, numerous fundraisers have been launched to help Ukrainians in need, from GoFundMe campaigns to Airbnb bookings.

 But one Chicago artist chose a singular figure in the crisis and began to design a Lego-style figurine of the Ukrainian president. Joe Trupia is the owner of Citizen Brick, a toy manufacturing company.

 At Citizen Brick, Trupia takes “the iconic LEGO® mini-figure and print[s] his own unique designs on them”. Although he has no personal connections to the war, Trupia felt compelled to help.

 The app uses AI technology to scan your cluttered collection of LEGO components and give you customizable suggestions on what to build from them.

Two LEGO certified master makers spent six weeks creating a realistic replica of the Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi. Built from 400,000 LEGO pieces, it can support the weight of two adults, which means there’s no problem crawling inside and exploring the cool retro interior.

Build the Future

Creative constructions of Lego bricks spring to life in these advertising campaigns developed by Asawin Tejasakulsin, a senior art director at Ogilvy & Mather in Bangkok, Thailand.
 The two series, Imagine and Build the Future, amplify the childhood wonder central to the Lego brand, devising playful scenarios that successfully interact with reality. In Imagine, storybook animals come to life, while in Build the Future, children assemble the uniforms of their dream jobs, all using Lego bricks.

 

Cherry Blossom Tree Made From Over 800,000 LEGO Bricks

At 14 feet tall and almost 5 feet wide, the incredible 3,333 kg (7,348 lb) piece set a new Guinness World Record for the “largest LEGO brick cherry blossom tree.” Originally designed in the Czech Republic, and shipped to Japan to be assembled, it took over 6,500 hours to complete the structure with 881,470 bricks. The impressive piece features a grassy base, large branches, a canopy with thousands of flowers, and even LEGO lanterns that illuminate the structure at night.
