How Dung Beetles Roll Their Food in a Straight Line


A researcher measures the impressively straight paths that three species of dung beetle navigate when rolling balls of dung from the center of a circle.
 When dung beetles wear light-blocking caps, the ability to roll straight is disrupted.
 Such experiments reveal that dung beetles use a variety of light sources as directional cues.
