Aleppo evacuation suspended as al-Qaida-linked rebels block deal


A deal to evacuate tens of thousands of civilians from the besieged districts of east Aleppo has been suspended and is at risk of unravelling after al-Qaida linked fighters in Idlib province refused to allow a simultaneous evacuation of two pro-government villages. Continue

Thousands of civilians are trapped in Aleppo with “nowhere safe to run” .



A deal has been agreed for Syrian rebel fighters to leave enclaves they still hold in eastern Aleppo, Russia's ambassador to the UN has said. It is not clear whether the deal applies to civilians, thousands of whom are trapped in the besieged areas. The rebels are on the brink of defeat in the city after a major government offensive backed by Russian air power. Word of the deal came as the UN reported summary killings by pro-government forces.

Two Aleppo hospitals bombed out of service in 'catastrophic' airstrikes

The two largest hospitals in besieged eastern Aleppo have been put out of service in airstrikes overnight and on Wednesday morning, the latest in a devastating week-long bombing campaign that has claimed hundreds of lives. The M2 and M10 hospitals, codenames used by local doctors to obscure the locations of the facilities, were hit at about 4am and then again at around 10am in what one health official described as a bombing campaign that was “catastrophic and unprecedented in modern history”.

When pictures speak louder than words


The boy, named Omran Daqneesh, was one of five children injured in an airstrike on Qaterji, a neighbourhood of Aleppo. The picture was sent to Telegraph correspondent Raf Sanchez by a doctor working in Aleppo, and since then it’s been shared thousands of times on social media.
