Morning Dew, Kazuhito Takadoi

This work by Japanese artist Kazuhito Takadoi is made of green grass. Kazuhito, who trained in Horticulture in Japan, grows the grass in his back garden. He waits for the grass to be tender to be able to manipulate and embroider the work. Each blade of grass is delicately sewn through the paper.
There is gold leaf and a beech branch. The grass will slowly mature and turn natural in colour.
The shadows it will then project against the gold leaf will become stronger.
The work is about time, the time for the grass to grow, the time that takes to make the work, and for the piece to change and mature. Kazuhito was awarded a Special Mention in the 2019 Loewe Crafts Prize and his work is part of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
