Split Farewells Oliver Dragojevic


Legendary Croatian singer and songwriter Oliver Dragojevic, who passed away on Sunday aged 70, was farewelled in the city of Split on the Dalmatian coast on Tuesday.The Croatian government declared for the first time in the nation’s history that Tuesday would be a National Day of Condolence and today flags all around the country flew at half-mast. Split, the city where Oliver spent most of his life living, farewelled the singer with a special commemoration this morning at the Croatian National Theatre. As well as his family and close friends, the commemoration was attended by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. Just before 7 pm, Oliver’s casket left Sv. Frane Church and made its way along the Split Riva.A large crowd gathered as a number of Oliver’s famous hits were sung as he was carried down the Riva by close friends, including Petar Graso, Doris Dragovic, Tonci Huljic and 2CELLOS Stjepan Hauser.He was then taken on to a catamaran and taken to Vela Luka on the island of Korcula where he was born with his song Vela Luka sang as the ferry departed with a host of other boats which came out onto the water to pay respects.His funeral will be in Vela Luka at 6 pm on Wednesday.
