On Saturday night, the physicist Professor Stephen Hawking discussed the universe, motor neurone disease and the future of the planet – and former One Direction member Zayn Malik.
Hawking was taking questions at an event at the Sydney Opera House, where he was beamed in as a hologram from his home in Cambridge, when he received a query that was rather more left-field than usual.
Buzzfeed Australia reports a guest asking: “What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?”
“Finally, a question about something important,”
Hawking replied, to a wave of laughter.
