Curiosity rover takes self-portrait from Mars
"It's an oddly human gesture as NASA's Mars rover Curiosity appears to peer curiously into the camera lens.
Curiosity swivelled a camera on its own arm to obtain the first self protrait to be beamed from the red planet.
After driving more than a football field's length since landing the robot is spending several days preparing for full use of the tools on its arm.
The image was taken on a day when the Mars Hand Lens Imager and other instruments and tools on the turret were being checked using the rover's Mastcams and Navcams. "
