Israel Embassy Attack in Egypt Strains Countries’ Relations

"Egypt is in a state of alert after protestors stormed the Israeli Embassy Friday, throwing documents from the building and tearing down part of its outer wall. Protestors were reportedly angry over a lack of progress on a new Egyptian government, but the Israeli Embassy apparently became a target for protestors’ ire because of tensions over the mid-August deaths of five Egyptian policemen on the Israeli border, for which many blame the Israeli government. According to the BBC, officials say three people died and over 1000 were injured in the incident; 20 were arrested. The Israeli ambassador and almost all of the diplomats working at the embassy were flown home to Israel. Six workers stuck in the building had to be rescued by Egyptian commandos."
