One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest hospital demolished... to make way for a museum of mental health

”It's one of the most memorable moments in movie history when Chief Bromden smashes a heavy appliance through a barred window to escape from a mental institution.

And now plans are afoot to preserve the scene and hospital where the 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed.

As demolition begins on most of the 125-year-old building where the movie was filmed, workers plan to preserve one section and the marble hydrotherapy device Bromden used for a museum of mental health.”

"The film helped both promote the cause mental illness and sensationalised brutality in state institutions."

p.s. One of the factors that have influenced my decision to be a nurse in a psychiatric clinic was surely this movie. I worked almost 15 years
with chronic psychiatric patients and it was a marvelous 15 years.
Unfortunately, life sometimes brings us to something else entirely, but I still remember many of my patients with great pleasure.
