Police Publicly Apologise to Zagreb Activist

"ZAGREB, CROATIA - The chief of police Vladimir Faber talked about recent police action in Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Zadar, and admitted that the police made a mistake in one case.

Faber admitted that a mistake occurred in arresting an activist in Zagreb, who was arrested on Monday around 3:30am.

“The police patrol noticed a man, and as soon as they started to get close to him, he started to escape. He was arrested soon afterwards in Tesla Street, and unlike what was reported in the media, he said himself that he ran because he posted posters with the phrase “Tighten your belts, gang of thieves”. That man will not be punished for disturbing the public order and peace, but only for posting posters in a forbidden place” said Faber. He added that in the case of that phrase, an offence is not in question, but an evaluation.

“This is why we publicly apologise to the poster if he experienced any inconvenience” said Faber.

The Croatian Minister of Internal Affairs Tomislav Karamarko revealed that the responsible people from the Zagreb police, who reported the activist for disturbing public order and peace, will be sanctioned."
