Croatian Donkey

"Although mostly fishermen place, also these days oriented on tourist progress, for the last few years, Tribunj has become well known for its donkey protection. This noble animal, that played one of the most important roles in human history, received its own natural reservation on Tribunj's small island Lukovnjak, whose maintenance is taken care of by the foundation 'Hrvatski tovar' (Croatian donkey). The contribution of donkey is woven into every Dalmatian house, vineyards, and olive-groves, dry stonewall and round karsts valleys, but also in great architectural works made in Dalmatian towns. Due to all these things, the inhabitants of Tribunj first decided to pay respect to this animal, without whose contribution Tribunj wouldn't exist. This place, 14 kilometres from Sibenik, 2 kilometres from Vodice, every first weekend in August it organizes a big party dedicated to donkeys, while the final part of this manifestation is local donkey race that gathers up to ten thousand guests."
