Polar bears floating down the Thames today
"It looks like a scene from a surreal post-apocalyptic film - a polar bear and her cub stranded on an iceberg float past the Houses of Parliament.
But the creatures floating down the Thames today were sculptures launched in the river to raise awareness of climate change.The polar bear stranded on the ever-receding icecaps has become the iconic image of the effects of global warming."via

The Bellmen
"Zvončari (the bellmen) is the characteristic folk custom maintained
in the region around Rijeka, Croatia.
The custom dates to pagan antiquity, and remains typical for this region.
The primary task of Zvončari is to scare away evil spirits of winter
and to stir up new spring-time cycle. During the Rijeka Carnival time
Zvončari march from village to village throughout the region,
following the same centuries-old route, making an extraordinary amount of noise, fueled in part by the wine provided by the locals en route."

Deaf puppy learns sign language
"Snowy was handed in to an animal charity because her owners could not cope with having a deaf dog.
However, within just three weeks of training, the four-month-old Jack Russell can sit, stay and walk,
by responding to hand gestures.
The pet has learned a vocabulary of different commands including, sit, stop, lie down, roll over,
come back and walk on."

Mother Superior’s final words
"A 98-year-old Mother Superior from Ireland was dying.
The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable.
They tried giving her some warm milk to drink but she refused it.
One of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen and remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened it and poured a generous amount into the warm milk.
Back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips.
Mother drank a little, then a little more and before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop.
'Mother,' the nuns asked in earnest, 'please give us some wisdom before you die.'
She raised herself up in bed and said, 'Don't sell that cow!'"

Rembrandt in Zagreb
This photo was taken with iPhone .Today I visited the exhibition of Rembrandt's graphics
that opened at the Zagreb Museum for Arts and Crafts.
Around 200 etchings by famous Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), 103 of which come from the Graz Alte Galerie LMJ collection, are on exhibit.
Because of their sensitivity to light, the graphics are rarely exhibited, and, when they are, for no more than three months.
The exhibition’s curator is Karin Leitner-Ruhe, who works at Alte Galerie.
Rembrandt is generally considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history and the most important in Dutch history.
The exhibit lasts until February 15.
The incredibly rare baby lemur clutching its teddy 'mother'
"With her bright hazel eyes, mop of fluffy grey hair, and tiny black face,
this adorable baby lemur looks happy to have found something to cling on to.
Staff at Besancon Zoo in eastern France have named the newly born Madagascar lemur as Tahina - one of only 17 Propithecus coronatus lemurs living in captivity worldwide."
