The Great Escape

It was a story that captured the world’s attention – 12 boys and their young football coach trapped for more than two weeks in a dark, flooded cave, kilometres from help or food. As the news came on Tuesday night that the last group had been rescued, media outlets large and small, from Denmark to the United Arab Emirates, celebrated.

Britain's new polar research ship is ready to go in the water.

The newly assembled hull of the RRS Sir David Attenborough is now standing on the slipway of the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, awaiting launch day. Weather and tide permitting, she should slide into the River Mersey on Saturday. The £200m vessel will replace the James Clark Ross and the Shackleton, which between them have almost 50 years' service in support of UK polar science.
The Attenborough is the ship the public had wanted to call "Boaty McBoatface" in an online poll, before ministers stepped in to choose a more appropriate name.
She represents the largest commercial ship built in Britain in three decades.

Secret Friends

AnaHell’s absurdist series Secret Friends features people in multiple locations around the world, neatly bending their bodies forward to expose their backs. A hastily drawn face and a wig instantly transforms them into comic potato-like caricatures of the everyman.

Memo to those seeking to live for ever

When we desire indefinite life we seem to be in denial of the essentially transient, impermanent nature of everything, especially of ourselves. To even imagine eternal life we have to assume that we are the kinds of creatures who could persist indefinitely.
But contemporary philosophers, neuroscientists, psychologists and the early Buddhists all agree that the self is in constant flux, lacking a permanent, unchanging essence.
Put simply, there is no thing that could survive indefinitely.

The mission could take days, with Narongsak saying the first boy could emerge at about 9pm local time – 11 hours after the mission commenced.
