What flu is coming next?

"It’s crazy.
First we had mad cow, then we had bird flu, and now we have swine flu.
Do we have to check the Chinese horoscope to see what flu is coming next?"

Thought you understood your pet? Think again

"A dog with a wagging tail is a happy dog. Purring cats are content. Always give your rabbit carrots. Sadly, most of these beliefs are wrong."
So what's the real story?

Dogs see in black and white
Wrong. Although dogs have limited colour vision - red and green appear similar to them - tests show they can distinguish blue, yellow and grey objects. Researchers at the University of California found that greyhounds and poodles can spot the odd one out from three coloured panels in return for food. Researchers have also identified receptors at the back of the eye that allow colour vision.

A wagging tail means a happy dog
Not necessarily. In most cases this is true, but dogs also wiggle their tails when they are agitated, tense, anxious, annoyed or ready to fight.

'The tail is an important communications device for a dog,' says Pendlebury.
Different positions and movements mean different things.'

Dr John Bradshaw and Dr Sarah Brown of the University of Bristol found that an erect tail indicates confidence and a lowered tail, but possibly wagging tail, insecurity.

This is why tail docking for appearance is unwise: it robs the animal of a way of displaying its mood and making friends with other animals, which can lead to fights.

Viagra

"A man comes to a doctor and, twitching his fingers and stuttering,
finally manages to say,
'Doctor, I have a sexual performance problem. Can you help me?'
'Oh, that's not a problem for us men anymore!' announces a proud physician.
'They just came out with this new wonder drug, Viagra, that does the trick!
You take some pills, and your problems are history.'
So the doctor gives the man a prescription and sends him on his merry way.
A couple of months later, the doctor runs into his patient on the street.
'Doctor, Doctor!' exclaims the man excitedly.
'I've got to thank you! This drug is a miracle! It's wonderful!'
'Well, I'm glad to hear that,' says the pleased physician.
'What does your wife think about it?'
'Wife?' asks the man.
'I haven't been home yet.'"

Penny Scales

"A husband stepped on one of those penny scales that tell you your fortune
and weight and dropped in a coin.

“Listen to this,” he said to his wife, showing her a small, white card.

“It says I’m energetic, bright, resourceful and a great lover.”

“Yeah,” his wife nodded, “and it has your weight wrong, too!”"

The unlikely friendship of the piglet and the giant rabbit

"The unlikely companions play together in the sunshine at their home on Pennywell Farm, in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

An odd couple, the duo got together after William had to be moved to a pen next to the rabbit hutch.

When they were let out for the day, William began following the large flop-eared rabbit, who is twice his size.

The pair became inseparable and now they even sleep together in the gardens and share food from the same bowl."

Let Kids Be Kids

"A group of children were trying very hard to become accustomed to Pre School.

The biggest hurdle they faced was that the teacher insisted on NO baby talk!

You need to use ‘Big People’ words,’ she was always reminding them.

She asked John what he had done over the weekend?

‘I went to visit my Nana’. No, you went to visit your GRANDMOTHER.

Use ‘Big People’ words!’

She then asked Mitchell what he had done

‘I took a ride on a choo-choo’.
She said. ‘No, you took a ride on a TRAIN.

You must remember to use ‘Big People’ words’.

She then asked little Alex what he had done?

‘I read a book’ he replied.
That’s WONDERFUL!’ the teacher said.

‘What book did you read?’

Alex thought real hard about it,

then puffed out his chest with great pride, and said,

‘Winnie the SHIT’."

Angela Merkel in her underwear stops traffic

Berliners on the city's main shopping drag, the 'Ku'damm', were greeted on Thursday with an unusual sight: a giant mocked-up image of Chancellor Angela Merkel in a matching purple bra and knicker set.

The 100-metre-square (1,000-square-foot) image of the half-naked world leader is part of a nationwide advertising campaign for an underwear company aiming to cash in on the success of a 'cash-for-clunkers' scheme for old cars.

Punters trading in their old underwear will get a five-euro (seven-dollar) discount on a new pair, the advert promises, under the slogan: 'The country needs new undies.'"

No Refills

A distraught patient phoned her doctor's office. Was it
true, the woman wanted to know, that the medication the
doctor had prescribed was for the rest of her life?
She was told that it was.
There was a moment of silence before the woman continued,
"I'm wondering, then, just how serious my condition is.
This prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS.

'Alien skull' spotted on Mars

"Internet forums are full of chatter about the picture,
taken by a panoramic NASA camera known as Spirit.

One alien-spotter speculated: 'The skull is 15 cm with binocular eyes 5 cm apart. The cranial capacity is approximately 1400 cc.

'There appears to be a narrow pointed small mouth, so this creature most likely is a carnivore.'

Another joked: 'The coronal ridge shows ample structure to support the musculature of antennae, although none are visible in this view.

'The nose area is broad and blunted as you would expect to see in a cold and windy landscape. Is he decapitated or is he buried up to his neck?'"
